Melvyn Lurie

Political Experience

Dr. Lurie’s interest in politics was a bit surprising, given that his family was apolitical. It began with the aftermath of Watergate. Several years later, he served as a field director for one of the presidential candidates, speaking on the same stage as two future presidents.

When he focused on his growing family, he shifted to local politics. He ran for office and served on local governmental committees.

The small New England town where lived was small enough to be a true democracy, not even a democratic republic. He dealt with a variety of issues in that forum, speaking to audiences of 300-1000.
